There is a unique unlimited source of water from an underground channel of Himalayas to Vakurta in Shavar. WASA is planning on directly distributing fresh-water from here to Dhaka City. More than 15 crores liters can be supplied per day through a single pipeline, said Dhaka WASA Management Director Engr. Taksim A Khan. There is no environmental risk & this can significantly fulfill the seasonal water insufficiency in Dhaka, he added. WASA informs that, currently they are successfully supplying 4% more water than actual need. But, only 22% of it comes from land-sources. WASA aims to substantially reduce the underground water dependency down to only 30% and largely increase the utilization of the land sources, by 2021.
