Headed by the prime minister, the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) confirmed the proposal of upgrading the municipality of Mymensingh to a city corporation. A proposal to extend Mymensingh Municipality’s boundaries was established in 1869. Confirming the news Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said, “Mymensingh will be the 12th city corporation of the country if government’s instructions are implemented accordingly. Mymensingh Municipality will be transformed into City Corporation. The same law to form City Corporation form Divisional Sadar Municipality will be followed this time as well.” Consisted of Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrokona, Mymensingh was declared the eighth administrative division of Bangladesh is 2015. In August, it was followed by a new (11th) education board of the country to monitor secondary and higher secondary level institutions under its division.
