PM’s statement on allowing the opposition to express their views and opinions is crucial for democracy

Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder speaks to DOT :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured the opposition that it will be allowed to criticise the government without any obstacles in the 11th National Parliament. “I would like to tell the opposition leader and all opposition lawmakers that criticism is always important in a democratic process. I can assure you that the opposition party will be able to make enough criticism,” PM said in a speech in the first sitting of the opening session of the 11th National Parliament.
In this regard, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder spoke to Daily Our Time and said that he look at this statement of PM positively despite that our democratic process has been broken down. Due to lack of effective opposite party our check and balance system in the parliament has been demolished totally. Even outside of the parliament there is no counterbalance. Now in this situation, at least such statement of PM allowing the opposition to express their views and opinions is very important. Otherwise, the democratic system shall be out of order. In response to the question whether there is any possibility that the opposition shall participate more actively after such assurance from PM, Dr. Majumder replied “I hope so”. However Dr. Majumder further stated, “Making statement is one thing and practice according to that statement is different. So I hope that the statement has been given to implement. This is very important”.
