Memorials to be built at mass killing grounds in Mirpur: Minister

    UNB: Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Huq on Thursday said that memorials will be built at Alokdia, Muslimbari and Zalladkhana in Mirpur area where mass killings were taken place in 1971.
    “These projects will be implemented as part of the national plan to reserve the memory of the liberation war,” said the minister at a programme at Mirpur Harunur Rashid Mollah Eidgah field.
    Mentioning that the independence of Bangladesh was achieved following the sacrifice of millions of lives, the minister said, “To make this achievement meaningful, the country’s people will have to know the real history of the liberation war and have to own the sense of liberation.”
    The minister also said the government will take all necessary steps to reserve the memory of the liberation war as well as the freedom fighters would be remembered for ever.
    Mentioning that different initiatives for the welfares of freedom fighters have been taken by the government, AKM Mozammel Huq said that ‘identity cards’ will be provided to the ‘true’ freedom fighters and residential facilities will be provided to freedom fighters without homes to live in.
