A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) seeking a stay on the by-election to the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) again.
The plea also sought a stay order on the by-polls for the six wards of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), reports Jago News.
Supreme Court lawyer Younus Ali Akand moved the petition, after the HC on January 19 rejected the previous writ petition filed challenging legality of the election schedule of DNCC and DSCC.
The court also lifted its earlier order that stayed the process for holding the by-polls and also dis charged the rule issued questioning the legality of the election schedule.
On February 25, 2018, the Supreme Court asked the HC to speed up hearing and disposal of its previous rule that halted the by-election to DNCC mayoral post.
The process for holding the elections was to remain halted until the HC rules are disposed of, the court said.
The DNCC mayoral post fell vacant with the death of Annisul Huq on November 30, 2017.
