Possibility very slim to curb corruption in present structure

Afsan Chowdhury speaks to DOT :
It matters little whether Bangladesh is ranked 13th or 17th in corruption perception index. We need to take a hard look at the way the corruption is determined.
We are not serious about stamping out corruption. It matters little what an international report says. Corruption is ubiquitous in our society. We need to see if the corrupt people enjoying the blessing of the ruling party are punished. Corrupt people belonging to the opposition party and the ruling are not the same. Have we ever gauged the level of corruption in our country? TI report is not another point. Is there any person in the country who is alien to corruption? I think such types of people are very few. People of this country are involved with corruption in one way or another. Then how could you expect to curb corruption?
There is a structural problem in our country about curbing corruption. It is not possible to curb corruption unless and until the structure is rectified.
The ACC Chairman has said that the corrupt powerful are even more powerful than he is. That’s why it is difficult to take puntive actions against them. I think the power of the corruption watchdog is limited as corrupt people belonging to the ruling party are not caught. Why no action has been taken against the drug dealers. There are scores of drug barons. Why they have not been arrested?
The corruption is everywhere in our country. To make matters worse, newer fields of corruption are emerging. There are newer techniques for corruption. We should fight corruption with all seriousness and sincerity. Otherwise, everything will go back to square one. The possibility to fight corruption in present structure is very slim.
