Curtain rises on Dhaka International Foto Fest

    DOT Desk: A four-day international photography exhibition titled ‘Dhaka International Foto Fest 2019’ began amid festivity at TSC of Dhaka University on Sunday.
    DU vice chancellor professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest, reports The New Age.
    ‘I want to congratulate all the students who are participating in extracurricular activities.
    It brings me great joy to see that many students have participated in the exhibition,’ said Md Akhtaruzzaman.
    The event, organised by Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) for the first time with an aim to facilitating photography, is featuring photographs by local and foreign photographers at different venues in the capital such as Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of DU, Zainul Gallery of faculty of fine arts and Gallery 5 and 6 of National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
    Photographers from seven countries including Bangladesh are participating in the event.
    The exhibition features 145 photographs, among which 111 photographs have been selected from 6,537 entries from home and abroad and 34 photographs have been submitted by DUPS members, along with 16 photo stories selected from 97 entries.
    A three-member jury consisting of principal of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute Abir Abdullah, principal of Counter Photo Saiful Huq Omi and photographer Taslima Akhter has selected the photographs.
    Besides, photographs selected for 12th annual exhibition of DUPS have been displayed at the event.
    The exhibition also features discussion, workshops and documentary screening.
    Eight best photographs will be awarded and DUPS will confer a life time achievement award (posthumous) on late eminent local photographer Manzur Alam Beg at the closing ceremony of the exhibition today.
