DOT Desk: Local farmers achieved bumper Aman yield in Barishal Division this year, said sources at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the division, reports The Daily Observer.
Arshed Ali, additional director of the DAE, claimed that due to favourable weather and use of high-yielding seeds, the Aman paddy production increased since the last few years.
DAE sources said Aman paddy was cultivated on 7,20,365 hectares of land in six districts of the division this year, and the production target was 19,81,375 metric tons (MT) of paddy.
Earlier, the DAE estimated that 2.75 MT of paddy would be produced in per ha, but 3 MT was produced.
So, this year 21,61,095 MT of paddy was produced.
Out of the six districts, the production of Aman paddy was better in Patuakhali and Bhola districts.
In Patuakhali, 6,07,824 MT of Aman paddy was produced on 2,02,608 ha of land.
In Bhola district, 5,29,485 MT of Aman paddy was produced on 1,76,495 ha of land.
In Jhalakati, 1,48,500 MT of Aman paddy was produced on 49,500 ha of land.
In Pirojpur, 1,93,923 MT of Aman paddy was produced on 64,641 ha of land.
In Barguna, 3,01,491 MT of Aman paddy was produced on 1,00,497 ha of land.
In Barishal, 3,79,872 MT of Aman paddy was produced on 1,26,624 of land.
Farmer Yunus Talukder of Lakutia Village of Barishal said they are happy to get increased production of Aman paddy.
He also said that the farmers will bring more lands under paddy cultivation if they get fair price of their produce.
