A Dhaka court has set February 7 to submit the charge sheet in the Gatco graft case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, reports Dhaka Tribune.
Dhaka’s Third Special Judges Court Judge Abu Syed Diljar Hussain set the date yesterday afternoon.
The court also issued arrest warrants against two accused— AKM Mosharraf, former state minister of energy and mineral resources, and Ismail Hossain Simon—in the case.
Earlier in the day, the former prime minister arrived at the court premises around 12:30pm.
Khaleda is serving her jail term at Dhaka Central Jail as she was convicted in another graft case on February 8, 2018.
On November 25, 2018, the High Court directed the lower court to conclude the trial proceedings of the Gatco graft case, filed against Khaleda and others, within six months.
On September 2, 2007, the ACC filed the graft case against the two Gatco company directors, Khaleda, and another. They are accused of causing a loss of Tk1,000 crore to the national exchequer by allegedly awarding Gatco the contract to handle containers at the Chittagong port and Dhaka’s Inland Container Depot.
