BNP is yet to decide to join the upcoming upazila council elections likely to be held in March. However, most of the party leaders and activists are not in favour of joining the electoral race.
The party high command will decide whether BNP will participate in the farcical elections like before. We will annouce programmes and carry on with our movement to restore the spirit of the Liberation War.
All constitutional bodies like judiciary, legislation, Election Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission are duty-bound to ensure the rights of the people. However, the incumbent government kept the institutions in its favour by increasing their undue facilities. The government has presented the people with a farcical election. On the other hand, the educated section of the society is giving a tacit approval to the all wrongdoings of the government. The Election Commission is no exception. Earlier, we have seen that the pro-BNP upazila chairmen, mayor and UP members did not get any cooperation from the government. On top of that they were suspended or faced harassment of different sorts.
Therefore, it is all the same if you win or lose. How long will you be able to fight a repressive government? I do not see any logic in taking part in the elections where people’s participation is not necessary.
