BNP hails TIB report on Dec 30 polls; says govt, EC trying to ‘hide faces’

    Rahat Islam of DOT : BNP has hailed Transparency International Bangladesh’s (TIB) report regarding irregularities in the December 30 national election and commented that it unsettled the both the government and the Election Commission (EC). “The ministers of the government and the Election Commission are failing to hide their faces after TIB unveiled the absolute truth of vote rigging,” BNP Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said yesterday at a press conference at their party office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka. Rizvi added that both the government and EC are now trying to hide their faces have, but have failed to because people are already aware of everything that took place the day before the election.
    In its study on Tuesday, TIB stated that electoral irregularities like stamping ballot papers the night before the polls and ballot stuffing by capturing booths on the Election Day took place in 47 out of 50 constituencies surveyed, reported The Daily Star.

    Rizvi also said that different international organizations have presented reports on vote rigging on December 30 while several democratic countries even termed the election as ‘questionable.’

    “They did not recognize this fake election; they even demanded investigation into the allegation of vote rigging. The world leaders have also described the election as the worst in the history,” the BNP leader said.

    Referring to the sacrifices made by the people for the country’s independence, Rizvi said they (people) will do the same if necessary, for the sake of their voting rights and the country’s democracy.
