Journalist Amanullah Kabir passes away, tributes paid

    Veteran journalist Amanullah Kabir passed away at the age of 72, reports bdnews24.com.
    He breathed his last around 1 am at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) yesterday.
    His journalistic career spanned more than four decades. Kabir joined country’s first online news portal bdnews24.com as a senior editor in 2013.

    He worked for Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, The Daily Star, Daily Amar Desh, and The Daily Telegraph (defunct), to name but a few.

    Being as the president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, this eminent journalist was in the forefront of campaign to establish rights of journalists.

    The senior journalist will be buried at his home village in Jamalpur.

    The veteran journalist was suffering from diabetes and other complications. Liver-damaging toxins were also found in test, his family earlier said citing physicians.

    He was admitted to Dhaka Central International Medical College in Mohammadpur due to the illness two weeks ago. Later he was shifted to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi and then to the BSMMU when his health deteriorated, his daughter Shovan Kabir told bdnews24.com.

    He had suffered a massive heart attack three years ago.

    Born on Jan 24, 1947 in Jamalpur, Kabir worked with both Bangla and English news outlets over the course of his career.

    He was founding Editor of Amar Desh, then owned by the BNP’s Mosaddek Ali Falu.

    Amanullah Kabir authored books such as ‘The Struggling Democracy of Bangladesh’, ‘Nodi o Ondhokarer Roop’, ‘Mukhoshbarhi’, ‘Nistabdhatar Matam’, and ‘Zilay Zilay Bhasa Andolan o Onyanyo Tothyo’.
