Maj Gen (retd) Abdur Rashid speaks to DOT :
The government’s zero tolerance policy against corruption will come successful based on the application of the process. Graft is a social and national illness. So, there has to be legal action in order to reduce anomalies.
Moreover, the people also need to be made aware of the impact of the malpractice. Bangladesh needs to stop graft, only to keep the pace of growth going. The government definitely deserves appreciation for the measures it has taken to curb graft.
I do feel that the government will manage to do the job with success. The past activities of the government are what makes me rely on it. As we know, the government announced its zero tolerance policy against militancy, ending up succeeding to this end.
Bangladesh is in a much better position in South Asia when it comes to the national security issue. Militants are at stake now. Hence, the government is expected to bag success in its zero tolerance policy against corruption.
The history of graft is even severe. We had witnessed in the past that Bangladesh topped the list of most corrupt country in the world, at least thrice, indulging us in shame. Some people join the ruling party for committing irregularities. Political stance can easily resist such people.
