The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Barrister Mainul Hosein for six months in 13 defamation cases, The Daily Star reported.
The court also stayed the trial proceedings of 15 defamation cases filed against Hosein for the next six months.
The bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order yesterday after hearing 15 petitions filed by Mainul seeking bail and stay in the cases.

Deputy Attorney General Khurshidul Alam told The Daily Star that Mainul cannot get released from the jail because he was arrested in other cases. Mainul was arrested on October 22 in a case filed for defaming journalist Masuda Bhatti on a television talk-show.

A total of 22 defamation cases had been filed against Mainul with different police stations in the country.
