Independent, neutral committee needed to stabilize human rights

Nur Khan Liton speaks to DOT
A separate, neutral probe committee should be formed to stabilize the human rights situation in the nation.
The way the human rights situation in the country is gradually deteriorating is very alarming. There has been a steep decline, as proved by the prevalence of extrajudicial killings, harassment on journalists, women and children. And unfortunately, the government’s responsibility in view of such a situation is not visible.
For a long time, human rights activists have been campaigning for the formation of a neutral investigation committee to bring the culprits to justice. Even though this has been going on for the last decade, there has still been no step taken by the government. We have also noticed that there are political reasons behind the deterioration of human rights. The general people have been suffering in the name of ‘opposition protest’ and ‘war on drugs’. This cannot go on in a ‘healthy society’.
