DOT Desk: Online platforms are increasingly becoming the prime destination for creative productions all over the world, reports The Daily Observer. And among all these platforms US-based Netflix can be said to be the most successful one with ease. Debutant Noor Imran Mithu’s directorial venture “Komola Rocket” has become the latest film to be added to the list of Netflix. The film has become the third film from Bangladesh to be selected by Netflix jury for its store. Till the third quarter of 2018 there have been thirteen crore and seventy lac viewers of the platform scattered all over the world who will now get to see the film.
Featuring strong actors like Tauquir Ahmed, Mosharraf Karim, Joyraj among others Komola Rocket was released last year in June.
It received critical appreciation but failed to draw theatre-goers. The film zooms on a single day on a steamer named “Komola Rocket” that holds people from diverse walks of life and a critical view of post-modern Bangladesh. It might be added that the film has already taken part in a number of prestigious international film festivals in South Asia including Goa International Film Festival of India and Jaffna International Film Festival of Sri Lanka. At Jaffna the film bagged the Best Debut Director Award for its maker Noor Imran Mithu.
Mithu has expressed his elation at the news that now his first film will be watched by people around the world. He hopes that in this way the Bangladeshi film can reach the global audience.
The film has been produced by Impress Telefilm. Of the two previous selections from Bangladesh Impress was the co-producer of Piprabidya or Ant Story. But this is the first time that a film singularly produced by Impress Telefilm has been selected by Netflix. Abu Shahed Emon, advisor of Impress Telefilm and himself a filmmaker said selections by Netflix opens a window for Bangladeshi culture to the world.
