Prof Anu Muhammadspeaks to DOT :
It is not possible for Awami League to declare zero tolerance against corruption. Because, the AL-led government has been in power for the last one decade. There has been unprecedented corruption in all development projects including banking sector under this government.
Corruption has taken a new dimension under the AL-led government. The big loan defaulters have now become lawmakers and they become more powerful. No punitive action has been taken against the people responsible for share market collapse. Now they have become much more powerful. The people involved with corrupt practices in different development projects have become powerful. The AL government has come to power promising to keep up the trend. Therefore, how can they declare zero tolerance against corruption?
Corruption has to be stamped out to ensure good governance in the country. Extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance and murder have to be stopped. Papers of all development projects should be presented to the people with transparency. Instead of glossing over the allegations of corruption and criminal acts, justice has to be ensured. However, it is possible for AL government to do these works. Therefore, I think good governance will remain elusive as ever. Nothing will change unless a miracle takes place. Because, the criminals and corrupt people are now in power. They will not chance all of a sudden. There is not an outside chance for change. Is it possible for AL to curb corruption and ensure good governance?
