DOT Desk: People are suffering despite having all facilities at Sreepur Rail Station of the district, reports The Daily Observer.
It is an important rail station where seven trains on Joydebpur-Mymensingh route halt daily. About 10,000 passengers use the station regularly. Though the station remains abuzz with passengers day and night, still they are not enjoying all its facilities.
As per passenger and railway sources, the Sreepur Rail Station, which is under Bangladesh Railway Eastern Zone, is a third class station. As it is located in an industry rich area like Sreepur, there is extra pressure of passengers on it.
Considering the passengers’ convenience, the government built first class rest room and second class toilet on the station, but these two establishments are kept close always.
Finding no option, many passengers respond to the call of nature
here and there, which is polluting the environment.
Ahmed Ali of Dakkhin Para Village in Sreepur Upazila said, “I have been using the station for the last 15 years.
Those who have houses near the station can respond to the call of nature at their houses, but those coming from other areas suffer much in this connection. They have to perform the act in and around the station.”
A passenger Nurunnahar said there are all facilities at the station, but as those are kept close always, people can’t use the facilities. Male passengers can respond to the call of nature here and there, but it is impossible for female passengers.
A small vendor at the station Sobuj Mia said, there are all the facilities at the station, but only good management is required.
In this connection, Station Master Harun-or-Rashid said, “The rest room and the toilet are kept close most of the times as there is no necessary manpower to look after those. Considering the passengers’ convenience, we have informed the higher authority to take steps in this connection.”
