Afsan Chowdhury speaks to DOT :
The people cannot say how the next Cabinet Division is going to be since the government does inform them whatever it does. The countrymen will demand a different kind of cabinet, which the government will prefer to be of another kind.
So, what is the point of talking about what kind of cabinet the people want to see?
It will not be wise to say that there is no opposition in the House. Jatiya Party is going to parliament as the main opposition. Now what matters most is how it acts as the opposition party and what its role is in the cabinet. The people are gradually losing interest in politics. After the 11th general election held on December 30, the trend is declining to a large extent. The people don’t even talk of politics. They don’t even discuss the country’s current situation.
Then what would they discuss about the cabinet? The election results as published by the Election Commission imply that the people fell for Awami League. They will not raise questions even if the government doesn’t form the cabinet. The prime minister said Bangladesh never saw such a surprising achievement in any of the past elections. So those elected through such an election can do anything for the nation. The opposition does not need to do anything. Since BNP will not join the parliament, all those joining the House will act as the opposition. Jatiya Party is still in a fix what role it will play in the parliament.
