Where do we keep this stigma?

Noted physicist Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal said has reacted on his verified Facebook page yesterday, with his write-up asking in the headline “Where do we keep this stigma?”
Dr Iqbal, who retired from at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) after teaching there for years, expressed his hatred and huge disappointment over the gang-rape of a woman in Nokhali after the December 30 election.

“The incident is a stigma for the newly elected Awami League, which is not something worthy of being neglected. The stigma is skyrocketing and the ruling party has to get rid of it before all,” he wrote in the Facebook status.

He also criticized the police for taking into account their ‘ initial findings’ instead of the victim’s claim in the case filed over the brutal act.

According to media reports, a pro-Awami League leader of Subarnachar and several other of his aides raped the woman, a mother of four, just hours after she cast her vote for BNP.

The victim, 40, told reporters at a local hospital that local Awami League supporters engaged in an altercation with her on the way to cast her ballot at Pankhar Bazar Government Primary School on Sunday morning.

Hours later, she embraced the ill-fate on the premises of her house the same night. She claimed that the incident was a result of exchanging heated words the Awami League supporters, something the latter refuted.

Her husband said a band of up to 12 people including Mosharraf, Salahuddin and Sohel broke open the door of their house and beat him, fastening him and one of his children. Then they raped his wife in turns, and they also beat her badly.
