Bangladesh fetched $20.499 billion from merchandise exports in last six months of current fiscal year. Exports Promotion Bureau (EPB) said the country saw a growth of 14.42 % in export earnings in from July to December of the FY 2018-19, against $ 17.9 billion over the same period a year ago.
The country’s export sector mainly features the apparel industry, whose stake in total export earnings accounted for around 90% in the last six months. It sector alone bagged $17.08 billion at a 15.65 % growth compared to 14.77 billion over the same period in last FY, says a provisional statistics the EPB released yesterday.
Ceramic products export experienced the highest (157.98%) growth followed by agricultural products 66.8 %, specialized textiles 49.53 % and pharmaceuticals 38.42 %, among significant and emerging sectors.
Disappointing performance in exports came from jute and jute goods, and leather and leather products. Both sectors witnessed a decline of 26.66% and 14.18% respectively in export incomes from June-December span.
According to the EPB, the country’s export income from frozen fish and home textile sectors remained static.
