Jatiya Party announced yesterday to join the government of Awami League-led Grand Alliance.
The party’s Co-Chairman GM Quader made the announcement after a parliamentary meeting of the party at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
“Since we participated in the election under the banner of Awami League, we want to join the government,” he told reporters after the meeting.
Election Commission yesterday in its official results said the AL bagged 257 seats and the JP 22 seats in Sunday’s national election.
This decision for JP to join AL would mean a vacancy for BNP and its alliance JatiyaOikyafront to become the opposition, reported The Daily Star.
However, Oikyafront also announced that their elected lawmakers will refuse to take the oath.
