The Rapid Action Battalion or RAB has arrested eight people for circulating ‘provocative videos and rumours’ on the social media, including Facebook, on the topic of the 11th national parliamentary election, reports bdnews24.com.
They were arrested in separate operations in the capital’s Moghbazar and Mouchak areas on Friday night, said Mizanur Rahman, assistant director of RAB Headquarters in Dhaka.
A RAB team conducted the operations based on the information after monitoring the suspects.
Video-making materials, laptops and mobile phones were seized from the detainees, Mizanur said.
Details about the detainees will be provided in a media briefing at the RAB headquarters in Karwan Bazar later on Saturday, he added.
