All party engagement needed to correct polling system loopholes

Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq speaks to DOT  :
There is a number of pitfalls in the electoral system which can be amended engaging Awami League, BNP, leftist parties and other registered political parties.
Among other issues, I will speak of the election-related ones, by amending which an election can be held in an easy manner. If the loopholes are not sorted out, elections in Bangladesh will never be held freely and fairly (source: Bangla daily Jugantor). The theory does not only also apply for the general election only, but for all local government polls. We want to urge the Election Commission that the entire process of voting, counting of ballots and announcement of the polls result be made public. The election result has to be published with the necessary documents signed by the returning officers, presiding officers and agents of the candidates, and also upon their concern.
If the process is not followed, the people must be infirmed the reason behind it. Moreover, it will be better to publish the election result all together, instead of spates of results. This has to be in place in every electoral area.
We want the country’s political arena improved, and which is why we are making the calls to the Commission and the political parties. The mindset of the countrymen has become negative towards police. We also want all the officials of the police department to work according to their conscience.
