Khushi Kabir speaks to DOT :
The human rights issue has received extensive media coverage but with little effect. It is a violation of human rights to launch attack on people during electoral campaign. Nobody in country perform his or her duty properly. Sadly enough, the Election Commission is not playing its due role in the election. There would have been no incidents of attack and violence if the commission had played its due role.
A free and fair election is not impossible if the EC, government and law-enforcing agencies perform their due role. The problem is that all of us want to win the election, by any means. On the other hand, the people are also oblivious of the past. The same people who have come under attack or made accused in cases will cast their votes for the attackers. We will be able to protect our rights if we become conscious. We will have to create the environment for protecting our rights. Otherwise, we can cry foul but with no effect. Everything will be right if we become conscious of our rights. We will have to understand our rights and interests. Then our politicians will become conscious. They will try to win elections through serving people.
