Mohammad Idris, the designer of the national emblem of Bangladesh, passed away on Saturday. He was 87, reports The Daily Observer.
He suffered a heart attack at his Basabo residence in the morning and died at a hospital in the city around 9:30am, said family members.
He left behind a daughter and son and host of relatives.
He will be buried at Munshipara of Rangpur district.
Mohammad Idris was a lifetime member of Bangla Academy and founding member of Chhayanaut Cultural Center. His design of envelop and stamp were selected by the government for the postal department in 1972.
After finishing his studies at the Art College, he had joined the Pakistan Observer. In 1960, he joined the design center, later renamed Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation, and retired in 1991.
