Sayeed Muhammad of DOT: A press briefing is going to be held today to address the uncertainty, climate of fear, and increasing violence that prevails in the approach to the upcoming 11th national elections.
Several acclaimed personalities will address reporters at 11 am at the Sagar Runi conference room in Dhaka Reporter’s Unity in the capital.
Professor Ahmed Kamal, Professor Anu Muhammad, Professor Gitiara Nasreen, Advocate Dr. Shahdeen Malik, Barrister Sarah Hossain, Photographer Shahidul Alam and many others are expected to address the media.
As the election scheduled for December 30 looms, media reports of violence and mass arrest, especially of the opposition parties and alliance, are increasing. Moreover, the government recently blocked at least 54 news sites on the ground of national security.
Meanwhile, dissenting parties have been accusing the Election Commission of inaction against the alleged attacks on their candidates and their supporters in parts of the country.
