EC’s internal conflict could question election legitimacy

Ishfaq Ilahi Chowdhury speaks to DOT :
Regarding the election Mahbub Talukdar said, “There is no level playing field.” Meanwhile, the CEC said that he doesn’t believe that there is a lack of level playing field. Now, people can have a difference of opinion, but it would have been better had they not expressed their difference in front of the public. Let alone outside our borders, such comments could confuse our own countrymen. But what’s done is done, and I hope that they would not escalate this any further. They should uphold their official decision. I hope that any future statements would be made with consensus. Such conflict could ultimately benefit the election saboteurs – this is something to be cautious about. I believe that whatever has happened till now is enough and should not be taken any further. Such comments can obviously raise questions about the legitimacy of the election. Our aim should be to limit such conflicting thoughts within their own departments. Spreading these on the airwaves is truly an unfortunate thing. They should come out of such behavior for the benefit of the nation.
