The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on December 18 said that Mahbub Talukdar, the Election Commissioner did not speak the truth about atmosphere ahead of the December 30 national election. The Election Commissioner on the following day protested CEC’s comment, stating that CEC’s comment hurt him as an election commissioner. “And the chief election commissioner has to remember that the CEC and all ECs are equal”, he added.
In this regard, Brigadier General Sakhawat Hossain, the former election commissioner said that there may be differences of opinion within Election Commission. However, these differences should not hamper the electoral process. EC is constitutionally empowered to conduct the electoral process in a free and fair manner.
