independent candidate Abdul Latif Siddique is being transferred from Tangail General Hospital to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area reports Dhaka Tribune.
The matter was confirmed by Tangail Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sayedur Rahman.
Earlier, around 9:10am Wednesday, Latif was taken to Tangail General Hospital on the fourth day of his hunger strike in protest to the attack on his motorcade with his consent in light of his deteriorating health, under the supervision of cardiac specialist Mofazzal Hossain.
On December 16, the independent candidate’s car was vandalized during his campaign in Tangail’s Gohaliabari area.
Three other vehicles of the former Awami League leader’s motorcade were also damaged in the incident.
Protesting the attack, Latif and his supporters staged a sit-in protest around afternoon the same day, in front of the Tangail deputy commissioner (DC) and returning officer’s office.
On December 17, he announced to go on a hunger strike, in a letter sent to the district returning officer, until his death if the authorities do not meet his three-point demand.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested four people on Monday evening in connection to the attack on Latif’s motorcade.
Latif intends to run as an independent candidate from Tangail 4 constituency in the 11th general election slated for December 30.
