Vote those who are progressive

Dr. Forqan Uddin Ahmed writes for DOT :
In the dictionary we will find many words for the alphabet A such as: artist, antagonist, aggressive. Again, ‘A’ also stands for Awami League and many other things which we come across by consulting dictionaries. But does Awami League refer to any negative qualities which have been mentioned here?
Now, does Awami League exercise such bad notions in its party activities to run the state? The answer to the question to many of the present generation youths is ‘No’. Because the youths have noticed and assessed the state policy of Awami League. Again, the basis of the above ‘No’ can be interpreted as follows: The first and foremost is that by birth as a party, Awami League has its entity as a national identity. In my writing I started with the symbol ‘A’, Now, I like to high light another alphabetical symbol ‘B’. In the dictionary, we find many words with ‘B’: Brazil, Bhutan, Bharot. Again, ‘B’ stands for BNP, though BNP is not a country name. But does BNP have their advocacy on the line like braveness, boldness, brightness and brilliance to do better things for countryman? Has the party any pragmatic manifesto towards peoples’ sentiment? Has the party brought anything productive visible progress for people? Although the party’s fundamentals were on productivity, instead of productivity there was damage being done.
The nation was engulfed in corruption and during their time, there were no justice, no equality. A section of people controled the whole country from Hawa Bhaban. Under the above circumstances, if question is put before people in respect of support in the national election, I think the answer will be ‘No’. So, in the coming 11th parliament election, people will judge many things. They are no longer ignorant. With their application of their judgment, people will give their right verdict. People will assess which option is needed for the time.

11th parliament election is knocking at the door. This time election is challenging for both the big parties. Particularly for MP, it is like an acid test to them. Election by BNP without Jamaat will lead them to a big defeat and it has been proved form some previous election results. In the coming election Jamaat can not play participatory role for their previous misdeeds during liberation war and after liberation war. If we study some previous results we see many ups and downs of our party position. Sometimes Awami League stands on its own feet, sometimes they share their hands with other parties. Again BNP had the same strategy about election game in the past.

In 1970 election, Awami League got the majority seats and the member of seats were 288 and percentage of casting vote was 89. But at that time there was no party named BNP. There was a party named Muslim League which was very much pro-Pakistani. They actually belong to the ruling Pakistani group, who were indeed the enemies of Bangalees. In 1973, again Awami League won the election and got 293 seats and casting vote was 73% plus.
In 1979, General Zia’s BNP got 207 seats and the casting vote is 4% plus in favour of BNP. Awami League got only 39 seats and percentage of casting vote was 29% plus.

In 1991, BNP got 140 seats and Awami League with its alliance got 100 seats. Casting vote of BNP was 50% plus and casting vote of Awami League was 33% plus. In the election Jamaat obtained 8 seats. For seat distribution in between Jamaat and BNP, BNP could form government in 1991.

In 15th February of 1996, Begum Khaleda Zia arranged a so-called election to get the state power for the 2nd time which was not at all fair. Behind the election, she had her bad motive. Her party got 278 seats and independent parties got 12 seats. After the election people started agitation and after a short interval of months, she was compelled to declare election under a non-party care-taker government and eventually Awami League won the election.

In 2001, again there is a change of power. In the election BNP got 190 seats & their casting vote was 40% plus and Awami League got only 62 seats having their casting votes 40% plus. In the election the casting vote was almost equal, but on the basis of winning number of seats, BNP had the majority. So BNP formed the government & tried to spoil Awami League. At that time many incident occurred like killing of Shah AMS Kibria, Ivey Rahman, Ahsanullah Master & even death plot of present Hob’le PM Sheikh Hasina. Among them 21st August grenade massacre incident was most brutal.

From the above election results & the tale of conspiracies and unfair election strategies it is proved that Bangladesh is time and again facing risks for state sovereignty. The masterminds of such games are from home and abroad of the country. In the past, general people were always treated as toys to their hands and made handicapped. The culture of democracy was demolished by unfair election. Peoples’ interests were always made punctured and disrupted. Always a vested corned used to take over the state’s control and manipulate the country people. In the name of democracy, they were used to misrule the country & cheat people. If the parties nominate dishonest people for parliament election, it will again be a massacre against the dignity & honor of the country which has been eared by Honorable PM. There are corrupt and dishonest people among the parties and these corrupt and dishonest people want nomination to misguide people and to interrupt the advancement of the country. So, ask yourself, which option you are going to take? A, B or any other? Choice is yours. In the upcoming election.
