NHRCB aided by Civil Society to make periodic report on human trafficking

    National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh (NHRCB) in partnership with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) will make periodic report on overall situation of the country’s human trafficking (including child trafficking).
    Disclosing this at a meeting today (Dec 17), Civil Society members said they in partnership with NHRCB will prepare the report and submit it to the government in February every year.
    The USA State Department, which assesses Bangladesh’s overall human trafficking situation every year, does not get true picture and they make negative comment in their observation about trafficking in Bangladesh, they said.
    The US State Department, in their last two assessments, put Bangladesh in tier 2 watch list category regarding trafficking in Bangladesh. If the situation continued, the USA may place sanctions on Bangladesh, they said.
    In their yearly report, the CSOs hoped that they under banner of ‘Prevention of Child Trafficking through Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN) Consortium, will be able to submit the report timely, portraying the full scenario about the trafficking.
    It would be helpful to spread true information and knowledge, which will eradicate misunderstanding regarding trafficking in Bangladesh, they said.
    The preparatory meeting titled ‘periodic reporting on human trafficking (including child trafficking) in partnership with NHRCB and CSOs’ was held at NHRCB at Karwan Bazar in the capital.
    On behalf of PCTSCN Consortium, INCIDIN Bangladesh, al lead agency of the Consortium, organized the event.
