Broiler chicken price rises, vegetables stable

The price of broiler chicken went up in the city’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday due to a supply shortage of the item, traders said, reports The New Age.
Broiler chicken witnessed an increase of Tk 10 a kilogram and the item was selling at Tk 125-135 a kg on Friday.
The locally bred hens were selling at Tk 350-400 a kg on the day. Prices of vegetables remained stable over the week in the city market. Radish, beans and spinach were selling at Tk 20 a kg, Tk 30-40 a kg and Tk 30-40 a kg respectively on Friday. Cauliflowers were retailing at Tk 20-25 apiece and cabbage at Tk 20 apiece on the day.
Aubergine was selling at Tk 30-50 a kg, bitter gourds at Tk 40-50 a kg, bottle gourd at Tk 30-40 apiece, okra at Tk 40 a kg, papaya at Tk 20-25 a kg, cucumber at Tk 40 a kg and tomatoes at Tk 60-80 a kg. The price of green chilli remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 40-60 a kg on Friday.
Prices of potatoes remained unchanged. Potatoes were selling at Tk 25-30 a kg in the city’s kitchen markets on the day. Newly harvested potatoes, however, were retailing at Tk 35 a kg.
Prices of fish remained unchanged over the week. Rohita was selling at Tk 250-350 a kg and Katla at Tk 200-350 a kg depending on their size and quality on Friday.
Pangas was selling at Tk 130-170 a kg and Tilapia at Tk 140-180 a kg.
Prices of onions decreased by Tk 5 a kg over the week.
The imported onions were retailing at Tk 25-30 a kg while its local variety was selling at Tk 30-35 a kg in the city markets on Friday.
Garlic imported from China was retailing at Tk 70-80 a kg while its local variety was selling at Tk 50-70 a kg. Garlic imported from India was selling at Tk 60-70 a kg.
Prices of ginger remained unchanged and its local variety was selling at Tk 90-100 a kg and the imported variety at Tk 100-120 a kg.
Price of eggs remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 30-32 a hali (four pieces) on Friday.
Beef was selling at Tk 470-500 a kg and mutton at Tk 750-800 a kg in the city markets.
The local variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 80-100 a kg, while the coarse variety of imported red lentil was retailing at Tk 60-70 a kg.
A one-litre container of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 105-107 and a five-litre container at Tk 515-540. Unpacked soya bean oil was selling at Tk 98 a kg, while palm oil was retailing at Tk 85 a kg.
Rice prices remained unchanged over the week. A kilogram of coarse variety of rice was selling at Tk 44-46 a kg in the city markets.
The fine variety of Najirshail rice was retailing at Tk 65-70 a kg and its standard variety at Tk 60-65 a kg.
BR-28 rice was retailing at Tk 50-54 a kg, while Miniket rice was selling at Tk 62-68 a kg.
Prices of sugar remained unchanged. The refined and imported sugar was selling at Tk 50 a kg, while the locally produced sugar was selling at Tk 70-75 a kg in most of the Dhaka markets on Friday.
Fine-quality packaged salt was selling at Tk 38 a kg, while the refined variety of salt was retailing at Tk 25 a kg.
