BNP Vice Chairman Selima Rahman demanded immediate deployment of army yesterday, citing “there is no level playing field” across the country at the moment.
The BNP leader claimed that he administration and law enforcers are working together against BNP candidates and activists. She was speaking to reporters after handing over a letter to the Election Commission at the EC Secretariat in Dhaka around 2:30pm.
“Police is acting like our opposition. Attacks were launched against BNP leaders and activists, including Mirza Abbas and Mahbub Uddin Khokon, across the country. Khokon was injured in police firing. We are facing obstacles to carry out our election campaign in Dhaka.”
“One party is conducting countrywide election campaign while another party cannot even hang posters,” she said.
“We would like to know the EC’s definition of level playing field,” Rahman added, referring to the CEC’s comments about there being a level playing field in the country
It is apparent that the government does not want BNP to stay in the polls race, she said.
“Under such circumstances, the EC should deploy army immediately for holding a fair and credible general election.”
