Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said nobody will be permitted to telecast live from inside the polling stations, but the media can telecast live from their corridors or premises. “No one can use mobile phones inside the voting booth as well,” Huda told reporters yesterday afternoon, reports The Daily Star.
Requesting journalists to enter the polling stations in limited numbers, the CEC said the above instructions were given so the presiding officers can perform their duties properly.
“This is sad and unexpected”, Huda said on the attack on Dr Kamal Hossain.
“The incident is a criminal offence and will be investigated as per the law. We will send this to the election inquiry committee. They will probe it,” the CEC said.
A letter, he said, will be sent to the Home Ministry in a day or two to ensure no politician is harassed.
However, the CEC reiterated that a level-playing field has been ensured and candidates are electioneering peacefully.
Election commissioners– Mahbub Talukder, Kabita Khanam and Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury were present at the moment.
