Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed has claimed that the Commission was not reported the attack on Dr Kamal Hossain’s motorcade, reports The Daily Star. “We are uninformed of the incident since no one lodged a written complaint in this regard,” he told reporters at Agargaon yesterday.
According to him, there might have been some unpleasant incidents centring the elections but “the number of such incidents will not be more than one or two percent”.
Replying to a query, the EC secretary said ballot papers will reach the field-level officers seven days before the general election slated for December 30.
Earlier in the day, Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain’s motorcade was allegedly attacked at the Martyred Intellectuals Mausoleum in Mirpur area of Dhaka.
The motorcade came under the attack when Dr Kamal was coming out of the Mausoleum after paying tributes to the martyred intellectuals around 9:45am, said Latiful Bari Hamim, a staff of the Oikyafront’s media wing.
Driver of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rob, who was with Dr Kamal, was injured while the attackers chanting slogan “Joy Bangla” vandalised several vehicles of the motorcade, said Hamim.
However, both Dr Kamal and Rob were unhurt, he further said.
