Additional secretary of the agricultural ministry Md Abdur Rouf on Thursday called for laying emphasis on maintaining standards during production of food to boost exports and make more profits, reports The Daily Sun. “We have to lay stress on producing quality food. Only then Bangladeshi agro-products can secure a place in foreign counties,” he said. He came up with the remarks at a quarterly agricultural media affairs workshop at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council in the capital.
The secretary said, “We have many challenges in the agricultural sector. One of them is crisis of labourers which can be solved by turning to agricultural machinery swiftly. “The government has been putting more importance on research and expansion of agriculture. To cope with the climate challenges, we have to look for new seed varieties and increase the use of new technologies.
“The media have to telecast more programmes on weather, use of pesticide, seed and fertilizers and motivate farmers to use high yielding seeds.”
Among others, Executive Chairman of BARI Md Kabir Ikramul Haque, Director General of Department of Agricultural Extension KBD Amitav Das and Director of Agricultural Information Service Dr Md. Nurul Islam spoke on the occasion.
