A police dog in the US is having quite a hard time adjusting to his new snow boots. Jary, a Belgian malinois, works for the Rapid City Police Department in South Dakota, where temperatures can tumble to about -9C (15F) during the harsh winter months.
His human colleagues wanted to ensure he was well equipped to deal with the elements, so invested in the special shoes for when he was out on patrol detecting narcotics.
But Jary was a little unsure when he first put the snow boots on – and appeared to try and take them off.
by lifting his legs off the ground as high as he possibly could.
The force uploaded a video of the canine’s shoe debut, with the caption: “When it’s cold and snowy out, but you’re a furry officer who still needs to catch the bad guys…”
Thankfully, Jary soon got used to his funky footwear – and has taken the seasonal addition to his uniform in his stride.
The force says their K-9 unit’s impact on modern-day policing is “immeasurable and allows the department to provide much better service to the community”.
