PM Hasina, others replace technocrats

    The responsibilities of four technocrat ministers, who had previously submitted their resignations, have been reportedly redistributed among the existing cabinet members, including the prime minister.
    According to a report by The Daily Star, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken up additional duties of science and technology ministry and the ministry of post, telecommunications and ICT.
    The report adds that LGRD Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has taken up the ministry of expatriate welfare and overseas employment; and Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has been given the additional duty of religious affairs ministry.
    A cabinet notice, undersigned by Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam, was circulated yesterday announcing the redistribution of ministries; effective immediately.
    The technocrat ministers submitted their resignation back in November 6, following the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Their resignations kept hanging for over a month, and they kept doing their regular duties including attending cabinet meetings, until it took effect on December 10.
    The four ministers were: Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam, Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matior Rahman, Science and Technology Minister Yafesh Osman and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar.
