The High Court has ordered the Election Commission to allow BNP leaders Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku to contest the 11th general polls. The High Court bench of Justices Sheikh Hassan Arif and Razik Al Jalil gave the orders yesterday, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The court directed the commission to accept the nominations of the BNP leaders and stayed the previous rejection order of the returning officers.

Advocate Hassan Arif and Fida M Kamal represented the writ petitioners at the hearing.

Earlier, both the leaders had appealed to the Election Commission against the returning officer’s decisions which disqualified their candidacies for the conviction in separate criminal cases.

Later, they filed writ petitions with the High Court as the Election Commission did to give any decision.

The 11th general election is scheduled to take place on December 30.
