Local authorities in Bandarban have decided to impose temporary restriction on tourism in the popular destination due to the upcoming general election.
According to a report by The Daily Star yesterday, the restriction has been placed from December 20 to January 6. Md Daudul Islam, deputy commissioner of Bandarban, claimed the decision has been taken to avoid “any untoward incident”.

“We want to advise foreigners not to visit Bandarban during this time our law enforcement agencies will be busy in election duty,” he added.

On the other hand, Md Sirajul Islam, secretary of local residential hotel owners’ association, commented that the ban, which would take during the peak season of tourism in the district, “will surely hurt the tourism business.”
