A 47kg weight endangered Ridley sea turtle has been rescued in Bhola by the Forest Department, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The turtle was caught by fishermen at the Tulatuli area of the Meghna River on Wednesday. This breed of turtle is almost extinct in the world.
The fishermen took it back to their house for sale.
The news of selling the turtle soon spread in the area. Later a local journalist named Achinta Majumder informed the matter to the Bhola Forest Department. The department then rescued the turtle from fisherman Abu Sayeed’s house.
Bhola’s Divisional Forest Official Md Farid Miah said they will release the turtle in the farthest south of the Bay of Bengal.
