The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday abolished the department development fees from Masters’ courses after facing tough students’ protests, reports The Daily Sun.
‘The university authority has cancelled the department development fees for the masters’ students’, confirmed JU Acting Registrar Rahima Kaniz.
“We decided to earn the development fees from University Grant Commission (UGC) from next year.
Earlier on Sunday, an alliance of student organisations of left leaning political parties under the banner of Pragatishil Chhatra Jote besieged the administration building demanding cancellation of department development fees from honors and masters courses.
They withdrew the blockade around at 3 pm after Deans of different faculties and Chairmen of different departments assured them to eliminate the development fees.
