The Election Commission has requested root level election officers to “build credibility and confidence” among the voters and candidates for the upcoming general election, reports The Daily Star.
“Don’t allow any leniency. We don’t want a controversial election,” Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder said at a training session yesterday, adding “Build credibility and confidence… So that the candidates can rely on you; the voters can exercise their franchise.”

Election Commission revised polls schedule near the end of November, deferring the 11th general election by a week to December 30. As per the schedule, November 28 was the deadline to submit nomination papers, December 2 was the date for scrutiny and December 9 the last date for withdrawal.

Throughout the last half of November, major political parties were busy selecting their chosen candidates for the 300 constituencies across Bangladesh.

“If you fail, the election will fail. If you succeed the nation will shine. We can’t allow the election to flow to any different direction,” Mahbub added strongly.
