21st anniversary of CHT Peace Accord observed

    Arafat Hasan of DOT : The 21st anniversary of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord was observed yesterday.
    Marking the anniversary of the peace treaty, different programs were arranged in the three hill districts Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Rangamati.
    A rally was organized by Khagrachhari Hill district Parishad around 8am while a discussion held on 10am, reported UNB.
    On Saturday, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the completion of 21 years of the treaty.
    On 2 December 1997, Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) signed a peace deal with the then-Awami League-led government, ending more than two decades of tribal insurgency and bloodshed in the country’s three hill districts.
    Jatiya Sangsad (National Assembly) chief whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah signed the agreement on behalf of the government while Jyotirindra Bodhipriyo Larma (Santu Larma) on behalf of PCJSS.
