Around 13,000 people contracted with HIV are currently living in Bangladesh, according to data from different national and international organizations, reported Banglanews.
World AIDS Day was marked yesterday across the globe with the theme of “Know Your Status”.
A discussion marking the day was organized by Health and Family Welfare Ministry, at the auditorium of Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) at 11 am with Minister Mohammed Nasim present as chief guest.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the day wishing all-out success of the programs marking the day.
Overall, most of the HIV positive patients, irrespective of population groups, were in Dhaka.
About 1,700 people have been newly affected by the virus, while around 4,700 people were diagnosed. However, only 2,470 AIDS affected people in the country are receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART), according to the report.
