10 Malaysia-bound Rohingyas rescued from Bay

    Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members yesterday rescued 10 Rohingya refugees and detained an alleged human trafficker from a trawler headed for Malaysia in the Bay of Bengal.
    The Rohingyas are: Mohammad Bhuiyan, Rashidullah, Nur Alam, Md Ziaur, Md Mukajat Esha, Jannat Ara, Setara Khatun, Julekha, Rozina, and Sonika Begum. All are from Ukhia and other camps of Cox’s Bazar, reports The Daily Star.
    On information, a team of Rab-7 conducted a drive in the Bay near Shahparir Dwip in Teknaf upazila and rescued the Rohingyas from a trawler around 8:30am, said Major Mehedi Hasan, commanding officer of Rab-7 in the district.
    Abdur Rahman, the detained human trafficker, is a resident of Sabrang union in the upazila.
