Note fakers go into overdrive

    Desk Report Detectives have arrested six members of a currency counterfeiting gang and seized fake notes worth Tk 51 lakh from Turag, on the outskirts of the capital. The arrestees were identified as: Md Abul Hossain alias Emon, 35, Sheikh Sumon, 32, Md Sagir Hossain alias Shaheen, 42, Md Iqbal Hossain, 32, Swapna, 19, and Touquir Ahmed alias Sujon, 30. Sumon Kanti Chowdhury, senior assistant commissioner of DB North of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said “A team of DB police conducted a raid at an apartment on the seventh floor of a building on Badaldi road in Baunia area under Turag Police Station on Friday and arrested them along with fake currency worth Tk 51 lakh.” The team also seized one laptop, two colour printers, skin board, foil papers, different other papers and cash Tk 29,800. The police official said Emon is the mastermind of the fake currency making factory. They have a planned to produce fake currency of Taka 7 crore ahead of the upcoming general elections. He also said the arrestees used to print fake notes and sell those ahead of the big festivities such as Eid, Puja and others big events in Dhaka, Chattogram, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and different remote areas in the country. During primary interrogation Emon confessed that he had started the trade of fake currency since 2013.
