The speakers said in the last one month around 300 homes and hundreds of hectares of cultivable lands went into the river
Local people in Kurigram formed a human chain on Friday along the river bank of the Kurigram Sadar upazila’s Ghogadoho union demanding necessary measures to be taken against river erosion of the Dudh Kumar River.
Ghogadoho Union member Md Dulal Mia, Abdul Awal, former member Lokman Hossain and retired bank official Shamsul Haque spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said in the last one month around 300 homes and hundreds of hectares of cultivable lands went into the river. The Rasulpur river embankment is also on the verge of collapse, wherebyhundreds of homes and cultivable land of the neighbouring village are also at risk.
The authorities did not take any measures to save the lands. In spite of contacting them, nonevisited the area to see its condition.
The locals from the human chain strongly demanded government’s attention and want the problem to be solved at the earliest.
