PM Imran writes to Modi, calls for resuming ‘comprehensive bilateral dialogue process’

    Wion News: Pakistan PM Imran Khan wrote to Indian prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday seeking to resume dialogue between the two countries.
    In his letter, the Pakistan prime minister sought a meeting between Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistan counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi on the sidelines of UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York later this month.
    “I wish to propose a meeting between foreign minister Makhdoom Mahmood Qureshi and external affairs Sushma Swaraj in the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York,” the Pak PM said.
    “Pakistan remains ready to discuss terrorism,” he added.
    India and Pakistan talks which was launched in December 2015 were later stalled after the terror attack in Pathankot airbase.
    “Pakistan and India have an undeniably challenging relationship,” the Pakistan prime minister said, adding,”we owe it to our people especially future generations to peacefully resolve all outstanding issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute Siachen and Sir Creek.”
    During his inaugural speech after winning the July 25th elections, the newly-elected Pakistan prime minister had called for “good relations” with India. Imran also pitched for better trade relations and resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
    Khan had said Pakistan would take two steps if India took the first step towards normalisation of ties between the two countries. PM Modi had called up Imran after his election victory and both leaders exchanged views on peace and security in the Indian subcontinent.
    The two leaders also spoke about to make the region free of terror and violence during their phone call. After the phone call, PM Modi wrote a letter to the Pakistan prime minister seeking “meaningful engagement”.
